XTREME VARSITY ITINERARY

XTREME Day 1:
Join the hustle & bustle at the Jamie Plaza while you pack your kit and quirky extras onto the bus…participate in the electric, yet “early morning” atmosphere whilst getting ready for your road trip to Namibia!
Bums on bus for the BIG departure & the start of your Xtreme Varsity Orange River Adventure…!!!

After a long drive, a stamp in your passport and anticipation of what’s to come, you will arrive at Provenance Camp!!! Home for the night!
Settle in as the Namibian Sunset brings the night life of the Namibian Dessert to life…after pitching your tent & a refreshing swim in the pool overlooking the Orange River, dinner will be served.

XTREME Day 2 :
For those that may be suffering from a long night…a hearty breakfast will get you kick started & give you the energy that you need in order to pack your “worldly” possessions & head down to the river for your safety briefing.

After learning the in’s & out’s of the essentials for beginner river rafters, guests paddle off downstream for a day filled with fun and beautiful scenery stopping for lunch along the way & an opportunity to stretch your legs…
Each day you will reach your overnight Campsite around early afternoon…yet again find a patch of lush, soft green grass or comfy sand to set up your “luxurious” tent with a view to kill.

Then the night is yours….!!
Sit around the fire…crash early…have a “late night”…create havoc in camp…whatever your heart & mischievousness requires.
After all is said & done, spend the night under the stars on the banks of the Orange river.

XTREME Day 3 & 4 :

After a delicious breakfast, you & your friends will head off down river again…Prepare yourself for days of excitement & rapids….fun & laugher…maybe a handful of mischievousness & a water fight or two!

XTREME Last day:
On the last day, groups normally reach take out late morning, where your feet touch firm ground again & somewhat of civilization…thus bringing your Xtreme Adventure close to its end.

After packing all your goodies onto "Bertie & Bessie"…you will head back to camp for lunch & a warm shower!

After lunch you can pack up & head back to Cape Town & all you know….OR…spend ONE last night at Base Camp & end off your adventure with a Bang!!!

Fishing on the Orange River !!

Fish that can be caught on the Orange are Small-mouth and Large-mouth Yellowfish. You will also be able to catch Orange River Mud-fish, and maybe barbell or even Carp. The average Smallmouth run between 1kg to 2.7kg but many guests have caught double digit fish. The Large-mouth can get really big - up to 6.8kgs .

Czech nymphing is very effective above, in and at the tail-outs of the rapids. You can  also use indicator nymph as well as cast large streamers up and across for Large mouth Yellows. This is a big river necessitating aggressive wading - wading boots are an absolute must and chest waders do make things a lot more comfortable.

Tackle wise you can use rods from #3 to #6 - some guests have had incredible fun on even lighter rods! Good quality reels are important because these fish are incredibly strong and use the current to their best advantage. The flies that can be used are heavily weighted Czech nymphs, bead head nymphs, caddis larva imitations, atomic worms and small general purpose nymphs as well as a selection of streamer pattern flies. Waterproof flyboxes come into their own as you will take an involuntary swim from time to time and a net helps to land fish quickly.

The fishing on the Orange River is very exciting - sometimes the takes are so soft and subtle that they are very easy to miss while other times they smash the flies really hard. It is a great trip to do and combined with a bit of catch and release fishing......the fish in the Orange will certainly put a serious bend in your rod!!!
