Here the Breede River originates in the GREAT Hex River Mountains and winds its way through beautiful green valleys, picturesque vineyards and farther on through quaint little towns such as Worcester, Robertson and Bonnievale before it disappears into the Indian Ocean at Witsand. PROPOSED ITINERARY OVERVIEW :

 

DAY ONE

Leave Cape Town by bus or car and try arrive before lunch. (Journey takes +/- 3 to 3.5 hours with breaks)
Meet at Round the Bend around 11 am and get broken randomly into groups of 10 – 15 depending on size of group.
This gets done on lawn area with some ice breakers. (Circle of trust, Hula Hoop and pass the water bucket)

 

1:00pm:     Lunch in groups and each group gets a guide/mentor who interacts with lids and creates a team spirit. The teams need a name and a War cry.
2:00pm:     Survival Series where each group moves with guide in round robin to different activities from mind challenges to physical challenges 

 

(Survival challenges are: Mind game, ski’s, cable walk, spinners web, croc pool, catty shot, nail game, blindfold maze, water tug of water)
During free time they get shown Alien vegetation and need to collect natural material to build a Totem pole.

 

6:00pm:    Snacks
7:00pm:    Dinner kids get taught about hygiene. Free time till 8pm 8:00pm: “knock out” Eggs crash pad auction.
10:30pm:  Lights out

 

DAY TWO

7:00am:   Rise and shine 8:00am: Breakfast
9:00am:   Groups get split in half does river rafting and other does Low ropes course and Climbing wall)
12:30pm: Lunch
1:00pm:   Groups swop around
5:00pm:   Free time with soccer/volleyball etc.
6:00pm:   Snacks
7:00pm:   Dinner
8:00pm:   Talent show on lawn (this will be rehearsed from day 2)
10:30pm: Lights out

 

DAY THREE

7:00am:   Rise and shine and clean up/ pack up
8:00am:   Breakfast
9:00am:   Human fuss ball challenge
11:00am: Packed lunch and depart

 

Please note that this itinerary has to be flexible with regards to time and weather.
After each day the guide makes time to sit with their group and discuss the day, what was learnt and a general chat.

– We offer 1 Free Teacher/Adult for every 15 Students Booked

The groups get split in 2 (half goes on nature hike (+/- 3km) to put-in and river raft. the other half stays at camp and abseils and Totem pole build)

 

12:30noon: Lunch (groups swop around for activities after lunch) 6:00pm: Snacks
7:00pm:     Dinner with free time till 8:30
8:30 pm:    Night hike & star gazing with bonfire and burn of Totem poles. Sing around fire.
10:30pm:   Lights out

 

DAY THREE

8:00am:   Breakfast

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

 

What boats do you use?

We use 2 man inflatable crocs. These are a lot of fun and work really well on the Breede.

 

How many can sleep at the camps?

We can sleep 56 sharing at Round the Bend in fixed chalet accommodation and an additional 150 sharing in tented accommodation with shared ablutions.

 

What if I have a larger group than that?

We have accommodated groups of up to 200 guests at both camps, however the extra people need to accommodated in tents that we out source, hence an additional charge. The tents are very nicely done, with carpets, beds, tables + lighting.

 

Can some of my group stay at the camp, whilst everyone else is on river?

Yes.

 

Is there a bar at the camps.?

There is a licensed bar at Round the Bend Camp and guests are not permitted to bring their own drinks or a corkage fee will be imposed.

 

What other activities can we do at the camps?

We offer a range of activities for groups. Ranging from abseiling, to survivor series, to raft building. For open trips, the guides will decide what options to offer, depending on the abilities of the group, the height of the river, the weather etc.

 

Can my special diet be accommodated?

Yes it can, but we need to know your requirements prior to the commencement of
the trip.

 

I have done the river before. Can I book which stretch I would like to do?

You can put in a request. However the final decision must be made on the day by the guide in charge. It depends on the ability of the group, height of river, time available etc.

 

Is there a shop at the camp in case I forget something?

No.

 

Can I pay my bar account by credit card?

Yes all major credit cards are accepted.

 

Can I download my email at the camp?

Yes we have WI FI at Round the Bend.

 

Can I use my cell phone at the camps.?

Round the Bend only has both Vodacom & MTN reception.

 

What grade is the river?

The river is grades 1 and 2. in other words fun for the whole family.

 

What is the best time of year to go?

This depends what you are looking for. The river is at its highest in the winter, so if you are looking for a river adventure the winter, and early spring in the time to go.
During the summer, although it does always flow, the river is very low. During these months, it is much more a case of fun in the sun. Lots of time for swimming, water fights etc.

 

What is the minimum group size that I can book for ?

6.

 

Can we have exclusivity at either camp, even if we don’t fill it?

You can only definitely have exclusivity if your group is 45 or bigger

 

Can we arrive a night early and just sleep over?

Yes however this is based on availability and needs to be pre-arranged with Head Office and paid for upfront.

 

Can we cater for ourselves?

No.
